Does anyone out there have any first hand experience with any of the 3 point quick hitches available. Do they really work and save time and frustration hooking up implements or are they a waste of money?

Hello: I have a Landspride quick hitch and am quite happy with it. However, it was expensive ($318) and I had to modify the 3-pt. hookup on my crane, scoop, and cultivator. The problem lies in the fact that the pins are mounted in different widths as you go from one piece of equipment to another. My Landspride quick hitch requires pins to be about 27 1/2 inches apart. Also, the vertical height is crucial; 18 inches seems to be about right for my hitch. I purchased a hitch on which the top hook is adjustable. This is important. I could have purchased a similar quick hitch from Northern Tool or Tractor Supply at lower cost--$169 for a hitch without an adjustable top hook or $189 for one with an adjustable hook. These hitches require pins on the implements to be slightly closer together and I would have had to modify more implements to use them. So, if you're interested in this type of hitch, measure the distance between the pins on your implements and the vertical distance required for the top hook. Once everything is set up to fit, a quick hitch really reduces the amount of pushing and lifting you have to do. I must confess, however, that I also made dollys with castors for each of my heavy items (scoop, blade, chipper, front of shredder). This allows me to store them more compactly in the shed and also to more easily align them with the quick hitch. I've read good things about the Freedom Hitch; you might check previous discussions. I fabricated my own hitch to tow my boat trailer for about $30. It has an adjustable ball so I can offeset my trailer to the right/left side of the tractor (manuevering optimization) and I can have 3 ball sizes a vailable without changing in the field. Best of all I painted it to match my jd 4100! ....

I tried a quickhitch and, as explained, there was variation in the pin placement on my implements and virtually none of them fit the quickhitch, even with modifications. It was frustrating but a great theory since I hate trying to attach the implements. I guess there is some value in standards. All my Bobcat attachments fit flawlessly regardless of who makes them. ....
